Equality and Liberty in American History & Literature

This course is an introduction to black American literature, speeches, and essays from the antebellum period through the World War II era. It examines a diversity of approaches to securing the equal rights of blacks and depicting their social and political situation before—and especially after—the American Civil War.

Participants should plan to check in at the Ashland University campus between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Tuesday, July 10th.  Dinner and the opening session will follow check-in and the first day’s activities will conclude around 8:30 pm.

  • Audit (in-service hours only): $425
  • Credit (1 semester hour): $561

Room & Board:

  • Double-occupancy air conditioned room and all meals: $250
