Old St. Paul's Church
(3rd Street and Willing's Alley)

Old St. Paul's ChurchSt. Paul's Church was one of two leading Anglican Churches in Philadelphia during the eighteenth century, the other being Christ Church on the north side of the Historical District. They jointly encouraged the founding of the Episcopalian diocese of Pennsylvania in the 1780s and were supporters of the cause for Independence. Some of the greatest support for severing ties with Great Britain came from the pulpit.
