One-Day Seminar: Documents & Debates – Urban Growth and the Pullman Strike, hosted by the Arizona Department of Education (Phoenix, AZ)
December 6 @ 8:00 am - 2:30 pm
The 1894 Pullman Strike was a turning point in American labor law, and heralded a permanent change in the relations between workers and management in the private sector, as well as helping to usher in what would become a new era in government regulation of labor and business. Taken alongside the era’s historic immigration and rapid urbanization, it is a perfect viewpoint on the times and the issues that helped to define them.
Explore these questions through a set of documents and questions that will together frame the issue as the debate it was at the time. Download volume 2 of TAH’s Documents and Debates and take a look at chapter 18 for the documents and questions that will be used in the final session of this program. The morning sessions will consist of additional documents to provide a foundation for and context around this early American debate.
Final program reader and agenda will be available digitally here after mid-August, and physical copies will be sent to all registrants.
