Lyndon Johnson’s ‘Great Society’ package of programs, seen by many as a logical extension of New Deal and Progressive policies, shaped a great deal of the late 20th Century domestic political landscape in America. It also could be said to have given birth to its opposition, in the form of modern American conservatism.
