First Amendment: Free Speech
November 1, 2025
Baton Rouge, LA

About the Seminar

Where does one draw the line between protected and punishable speech? Is “hate speech” entitled to First Amendment protection? Are there boundaries of free expression? Join us as we explore the crucial role of free speech in a democratic republic and the Supreme Court’s evolving standards of jurisprudence since the first opinion was handed down in 1919.

This program will be conducted as a discussion, utilizing primary source documents as the only readings, and with Professor Stoner facilitating the conversation, instead of lecturing or presenting. Registrants, therefore, are highly encouraged to read all the documents in advance and come ready with questions. Teachers will receive a Letter of Attendance at the conclusion of the seminar.
