Convention Contributions: Pierce Butler attended most sessions of the convention. While there, he was actively in support of the Federalists’ cause. He also is known for defense of slaveholders. William Pierce said when describing Butler, “as a politician or an Orator, he has no pretentions to either.”
New Government Participation: Butler served in the U.S. from 1789-1796 and from 1802-1804.
