Convention Contributions: During the convention, Clymer rarely spoke and could be said to have a very moderate contribution to the convention. Pierce described him as “he is a respectable Man, and much esteemed”
New Government Participation: Clymer continued serving in the Pennsylvania Legislature until he was elected as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1789-1791, He was appointed collector of excise duties in 1791 and served until the Whiskey Rebellion caused him to retire in 1794. The only other notable public office he served was as a commissioner to negotiate with the Creeks and Cherokee in 1796.
