Convention Contributions: Due to being an active governor, Livingston’s attendance was less than perfect. Despite this attendance, Livingston played a vital role in reaching a compromise on slavery and was an avid supporter of the New Jersey Plan. William Pierce described him as “a Man of the first rate talents, but he appears to me rather to indulge a sportiveness of wit, than a strength of thinking.”
New Government Participation: Livingston continued to be New Jersey’s Governor until his
death in 1790.
