One-Day Seminar: The New Deal and Great Society Compared hosted by Alta High School (Sandy, UT)

April 27 @ 8:20 am - 2:00 pm

Two of the most important political programs of the 20th Century: the New Deal and Great Society, heralded significant changes in how the federal government relates to and impacts the lives of individual Americans. Both are rooted in the ideas and goals of the Progressive movement, but how are they each similar to and different from each other? To what extent is each ‘Progressive,’ or a new direction entirely? This Seminar will begin with a session about the core political, legal, and constitutional elements of the Progressive Movement, then continue with a session each on the New Deal and Great Society, providing participants with documents and discussion spanning the “refounding” of America, some would say, that took place during the 20th Century.

Discussion Leader: Dr. John Moser, Professor of History, Ashland University
