In 1980, futurists projected a digital electronic revolution that would radically change communications and other aspects of work and home life. Personal computers, e-mail, the Internet, social networking, cell phones, global positioning systems, and other technology developed with astonishing speed. In addition to technology, a number of significant turning points in American history occurred from 1980-1992. At home, politics and ideology grew increasingly conservative. Globally, the Soviet Union collapsed, bringing an end to the long Cold War.
