William Atto is Associate Professor and Chair of the History Department, University of Dallas.

William Atto is the Editor (with R.J. Pestritto) of American Progressivism: A Reader (Lexington Books, 2008) and most recently authored a chapter entitled “Lyndon B.Johnson: The Abuse of Power” in American Statesmanship: Principles and Practice of Leadership,  (University of Notre Dame Press, 2021) edited by Joseph R. Fornieri, Kenneth L. Deutsch, and Sean D. Sutton.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.  His specialties include United States history with an emphasis on nineteenth century America, as well as American political, military, and intellectual history.
