Selected Antifederalist Collections
Although there are many essays, letters, and other writings from Antifederalist authors from across the 13 original states, and we have identified a short list of the essential essays, some authors deserve attention for their coherence, persuasiveness, and the continued relevance of their arguments. These authors’ essays are linked in various places throughout this exhibit; however, we have collected them together on individual pages to make research easier.
- An Old Whig – Published in Pennsylvania papers
- Brutus – Possibly Robert Yates of New York
- Cato – Seven essays published in New York newspapers, primarily concerned with the president and executive branch
- Centinel – Thought to be Samuel Bryan of Pennsylvania
- Federal Farmer – Published in New England and Pennsylvania newspapers
