Convention Contributions: Lansing participated in the convention for 6 weeks before he, and fellow delegate Yates, walked out after realizing there was no hope of actually revising the articles.  When describing Lansing, fellow delegate William Pierce said “his legal knowledge I am told is not extensive, nor his education a good one.”
New Government Participation: Lansing served in the New York ratifying committee working against the U.S. Constitution. He served as the Mayor of Albany from 1786-1790 and then as a justice on the New York Supreme Court from 1890-1801. In the last three years, starting in 1798, he served as the Chief Justice. Following his career in the New York Court system, he became New York’s Chancellor from 1801-1814.
