Cold War on the Home Front: 1945-1954

Cold War on the Home Front: 1945-1954

The rise of tension between the United States and the Soviet Union is a story that has often been told. How did these developments abroad affect life in the United States? This seminar will focus on postwar anti communism, culminating in the McCarthy Era, but will also focus on changes in home and family life, as well as popular culture and religion in the postwar period.

This program will be conducted as a discussion, utilizing primary source documents as the only readings, and with Professor Pullin facilitating the conversation, instead of lecturing or presenting. Registrants, therefore, are highly encouraged to read all the documents in advance and come ready with questions. Teachers will receive a Letter of Attendance at the conclusion of the seminar.
