The Kennedy and Johnson Years
Presidents Kennedy and Johnson confronted many crises during their years in office. This seminar will consider how both of them managed those crisis here in America and abroad. The first session will discuss JFK and his management of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Soviet Union and Cuba. Session two will look at LBJ and the rising tensions in the world while the third session will focus on their handling of the Vietnam War.
This program will be conducted as a Socratic discussion, utilizing primary source documents as the only readings, and with the Discussion Leader facilitating the conversation, instead of lecturing or presenting. Registrants, therefore, are highly encouraged to read all the documents in advance and come ready with questions. Teachers will receive a Letter of Attendance at the conclusion of the seminar.
