America in the 1970s
The “Me Decade” of the 1970s was more than disco, bell bottoms, and Star Wars. It was also the decade of the Watergate scandal, the end of the Vietnam War, the resignation of a president, an energy crisis, second-wave feminism, Roe, v. Wade, and the rise of a new conservative movement. This seminar will focus on the political crises, foreign policy debates, and cultural conflicts of the decade, with special emphasis on the Nixon and Carter presidencies, debates over detente and the Vietnam War, including cultural polarization over the feminist movement.
In order to be a part of the conversation, registrants are highly encouraged to read all the documents in advance and come ready with questions.
